JUST LOOK AT HIS LITTLE 3 FINGERED HAND STRETCHED OUT LIKE NOOOOOOO DON’T WEAVE ME! *gross sobbing*
And then he still reaches towards because he’s still hoping against hope that she’ll follow him so they can just run away and live together for the rest of their lives, because he knows there’s nothing he can do now but simply beg her wordlessly to abandon this madness, this entire war so they can get that future they dreamed of.
And she looks back, she’s tempted, but then she sees the beam and Harbinger and she knows that if she hesitates for a moment longer, both the man she loves and the galaxy are doomed. So she gives him that last, hard order, and you can see he doesn’t want to follow it, but he knows it’s her choice.
He loves her so much, and that’s why in the end, he lets go of her. Because he can dry her tears and embrace her when it’s too much, he can make jokes so that she can laugh without the weight of the world on her shoulders, he listens to her speak so she can look at herself in a mirror every day without wondering if it’s all really worth it, he can hold her and love her to remind her what they’re fighting for.
But in the end, here, he knows that he can’t stay or ask her to come. So when she says ‘go!’, he acts like a good Turian and obeys her order, because his death won’t help anything and he knows that she has to do this.
So he goes back on the Normandy, and the last thing he sees before the hangar closes up and the ship departs are the tears on her face.
Goddammit, Sis! You nailed it, you so nailed it. This is exactly what I thought/imagined happened wordlessly, but truly. MY FEELS.
